Adam Singer – Certified Rickson Gracie 3rd Degree Black Belt – Athens, Georgia
SBG Athens has the highest ranked certified Rickson Gracie Jiu Jitsu Black Belt in Athens with Adam Singer, a 3rd degree black belt. Adam is best known as the coach of former UFC Champion Forrest Griffin along with his brother who is also a 3rd Degree Black Belt Rory Singer, a UFC Veteran and star of TV show Ultimate Fighter Season 3, Brian Bowles, WEC Bantamweight Championship winner and UFC Competitor.
Although SBG as an organization is best known for Conor McGregor and Athen’s own Forrest Griffin, the team has formidable grappling capabilities. Gunnar Nelson who fights out of SBG Ireland is an ADCC veteran who has won gold at brown belt in the Pan Ams. The lineage of SBG is via Rigan Machado although several SBG Black Belts have earned belts directly under Rickson Gracie including Matt Thornton, John Frankl, and Henry Akins who earned his black belt under Rickson and led instruction at his academy for many years when Rickson was away.

Alongside the professional fight team of multiple UFC veterans here at SBG Athens, there are 11 BJJ Black Belts at SBG Athens and we regularly compete in IBJJF, New Breed, Copa, Kakuto, NFC BJJ, and NAGA. As a result of our pedigree in both Gracie Jiu Jitsu and the UFC as the dominant team in Athens in both verticals, we are also the largest BJJ and MMA gym in the area whether measured by membership or square footage. Our Jiu Jitsu works whether it’s for a professional or parent looking for Self Defence for themselves or the athlete looking to compete in the UFC, NAGA or BJJ competitions like the IBJJF. We also offer the world renown children’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and youth development training program “Growing Gorillas” and wrestling standouts such as Zander Singer and Gabriel Peryam (Reinhardt University) compete across the US in wrestling competitions, winning medals wherever they go. While we never pressure anyone to compete, and most of our members do not, we produce champions at all age groups and across all disciplines of martial art.
We regularly host seminars with world class Black Belts like Henry Akins and are delighted to be a certified Academy of the Jiu Jitsu Global Federation.
