Frequently Asked Questions

Thanks for setting up a time to come see us at SBG Athens. As a Coach it’s my job to make sure you don’t have to make any of the mistakes that I’ve already made so here are answers to common questions:

Our address is 240 Collins Ind. Blvd., Suite G, Athens, GA 30601. Feel free to copy that address into a map application on your phone so you know how long the drive is and have GPS instructions to get here. We are located near the intersection of Danielsville Rd and Collins Ind. Blvd. and to the left of Christian Roofing and Remodeling. Upon arriving into our parking lot you will notice a big gorilla on the door.

Please show up 10-15 minutes early.

(706) 850-8444 – Tap on the number if you’re looking at this in your phone and save us as a contact under “SBG Athens”. Don’t forget to call when you’re on your way and we’ll meet you at the front door.

We check temperatures at the door. We wear masks during class. We train in small groups so that we can contact trace our students and immediately let them know if they were training with anyone who’s been suspected of, or diagnosed with, Covid-19.

Have a healthy (lite) snack and drink a bottle of water about an hour before your visit. You will likely be participating in a workout or a free lesson. We would hate for you to be unable to complete it because of low blood sugar or poor hydration. It won’t be a rigorous session but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

We have found over the years that athletic shorts, t-shirt, and flip flops are the perfect first class clothing. We often find females ask if they can wear yoga leggings as they are more comfortable. The answer is that they certainly can. Additionally, we recommend a well fitted sports bra. More importantly is how you wear it. You will be meeting with, speaking with, and training with another human being in close contact. Being clean, having fresh breath, and wearing clean clothes will go a long way in assuring a fun first session with your coach.

Water bottle, ID, and your wallet. We need to know you are you and the best way to do that is with your ID. Additionally, after meeting with one of the academy’s coaches, you may decide to join the Tribe. You’ll likely need to have a form of payment to be able to take advantage of any initial incentives.

We don’t have expectations of your abilities. Be calm, relaxed, and ready to learn. The last thing you need to worry about is proving how much you know or how tough you are. This isn’t a try out for a sports team or fight team. This is a chance for you to decide if you want us to teach you how to defend yourself.
